Charles Sheffield

Bio: Charles Sheffield wrote, "I had no intention of writing science fiction, or indeed fiction of any kind, until I was close to forty. And then the writing came more or less by accident." Charles became reaquainted with science fiction (he was an avid reader as a teenager) after coming across a copy of Larry Niven's Ringworld. After collecting a large number of rejection slips, he sold his first story, "What Song the Sirens Sang," to Galaxy magazine. Sales to Analog followed. When the editor of Galaxy moved on to Ace Books, he asked Charles to submit a novel, which was published as Sight of Proteus in 1978. A second novel, Web Between the Worlds, was published in 1979. Since then, Charles Seheffield has written and edited many, many short stories, novels, series, and antholologies. He won the Hugo and Nebula Awards for "Georgia On My Mind" (available here at Fictionwise) and was a Hugo Nominee for "Godspeed" and "A Braver Thing" (also available at Fictionwise).
