Bio: Biographer, historian, lecturer, teacher, and award-winning author, David McCullough is the author of six widely acclaimed books, including Truman one of the most popular American biographies of all time and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He is also host of the PBS television series The American Experience and narrator of Ken Burns' production of The Civil War.

Mr. McCullough is president of the Society of American Historians and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has lectured at venues throughout United States, including the White House, and is one of the few private citizens ever invited to address the U.S. Congress.

Mr. McCullough's many awards and honors include the Charles Frankel Prize, presented by President Clinton; the National Book Foundation Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award; the Samuel Eliot Morison Award; and the New York Public Library Literary Lion Award. He has twice received the National Book Award and the Frances Parkman Prize.

Mr. McCullough's early ambitions as a portrait painter led him to his life's work and his strong support for arts education.
