1 The Mark of Zorro: A Romance of Old California [MultiFormat]
by Johnston McCulley
Johnstone McCulley's The Mark of Zorro is one of the most compulsively readable novels ever published. In the opening scene, Sargent Pedro Gonzales drinks at a tavern one dark and stormy night, boasting that his superior swordsman would make quick work of the masked-highwayman named Zorro, who is always taking the peon's side, when the door is flung open and Zorro strides in. Soon the scene shifts to the hacienda of Don Carlos Pulido, where the languid fancier of poetry, Don Diego Vega, pays a t... more info>> 2004

2 Tales of Thubway Tham [MultiFormat]
by Johnston McCulley
Thubway Tham is a small, short-tempered gnome of a man, a professional pickpocket with an annoying lisp. But he is no mere thief . . . he is the king of his chosen profession, a master "dip" who works only in the subways of New York City. Like all such villains, he faces a cunning adversary in Police Detective Craddock, who is always half a pace behind. Craddock has sworn to put Tham behind bars, where he belongs. But Tham is clever enough to always remain one step ahead of Craddock and everyone... more info>> 2005

by Johnston McCulley & Anne Wingate

The second issue of CLUES magazine (February, 1929) featured "The Man Who Changed Rooms," by Johnston McCulley, as its lead novel ... in this case, actually a novella. The creator of Zorro once again shows his interest in the mystery genre in this exciting pulp fiction tale. 1929
