Bio: Louis Horst (1884-1964) played a central role in the growth of modern dance as accompanist, composer, and teacher. His many collaborations with Martha Graham included classic works such as Primitive Mysteries (1931) and Frontier (1935). Horst taught at the Juilliard School and coauthored, with Carroll Russell, the companion book to this volume, Modern Dance Forms.
