Michael Lerner
Bio: Rabbi Michael Lerner is an internationally renowned social theorist, theologian, psychotherapist, and the editor of Tikkun magazine. A recipient of an award from PEN-Oakland for his work developing a "Progressive Middle Path" for Middle East politics, Lerner was named by Utne as one of its 100 American Visionaries. A national leader of the anti-war movement of the 60s and chair of the Berkeley chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, Lerner was dubbed by J. Edgar Hoover as "one of the most dangerous criminals in America." Twenty years later, he was described by the Washington Post as "the guru of the Clinton White House." While neither description was accurate-Lerner is a serious analyst of the psychological and spiritual dynamics of Western societies. He has received two PhD1s, one in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, and one in clinical psychology from the Wright Institute, and is rabbi of Beyt Tikkun synagogue which meets in San Francisco and Berkeley.
