Bio: Richard Paul Russo was born and raised in San Jose, California. After publishing several stories in small literary magazines, he attended the Clarion East Writing Workshop in 1983. His first new story saw publication in Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine in 1986. Since that time he has published six novels, more than two dozen short stories, and one story collection. In addition to U.S. publication, his books have been published in England, Germany, Italy, and Israel.

His first novel, Inner Eclipse, was published in 1988. His second novel, Subterranean Gallery, won the Philip K. Dick Memorial Award for 1989, and was a finalist for the Arthur C. Clarke Award in England. His third novel, Destroying Angel, was also a finalist for the Clarke Award, and his two subsequent novels – Carlucci’s Edge and Carlucci’s Heart – were both finalists once again for the Philip K. Dick Award, with Carlucci’s Edge winning the Philip K. Dick Special Citation for 1995. The Carlucci novels will be published as a 3-in-1 trade paperback omnibus edition in September 2003. His first story collection, Terminal Visions, was published by Golden Gryphon Press in 2000, and was a finalist for the 2001 Endeavour Award. Ship of Fools, his newest novel, was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and won the 2001 Philip K. Dick Memorial Award.

He resides in Seattle, Washington, with his wife, Candace, and two cats.
