Bio: Thomas Edward Lawrence was born in 1888 in Wales, the son of Sir Thomas Chapman, Baronet of Westmeath in Ireland, and Sarah Junner. He was educated at Oxford, and spent his postgraduate years in Arabia, where he acquired knowledge of Arab language and customs. In 1916 he joined the forces of Sheik Feisal al Husayn and helped him lead a successful British-backed revolt against the Turks. After the war he returned to Britain and joined the tank corps as a private. He died in 1935 in Dorsetshire following a motorcycle accident.

1 Revolt in the Desert [MultiFormat]
by T. E. Lawrence
The world continues to be enthralled with the story of Lawrence of Arabia. Rejected as unfit for military service, he went on to become the commander of an Arab camel corps instrumental in winning a long and difficult desert war. Here, set down only a few years after his return to England, is his own account of the revolt and the realities, the politics and the people behind Arab independence from Turkish rule. 1927
