"This is an eminently readable book, a splendid introduction to Marion Zimmer Bradley's genius." -- Kliatt

This is at least the third edition of this book -- or possibly more, depending on how one counts editions. The collection was first published under the title THE BEST OF MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY in paperback by Academy Chicago Publishers in 1985, followed by their hardcover version in 1986. DAW Books published a mass market paperback version in 1988, which is where the wonderful cover painting by Richard Hescox comes from. (The face in the poster on the wall near the bottom, just below the artist's signature, is Donald A. Wollheim. I don't know if it's an election poster or a 'wanted' poster.) Then there was a 1993 hardcover version, again from Academy Chicago Publishers, titled JAMIE AND OTHER STORIES: THE BEST OF MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY. That version added the Introduction by Marion and the story "Jamie" at the beginning of the book, even though the rest of the stories are in chronological order and "Jamie" was the last of them to be written.
Despite the title, these stories do not actually represent MZB's best work. She would be among the first to say that her best work is in her novels and that short stories were never her forte. What this book more accurately represents is slices of her life. For this edition I have put the stories back into chronological order and tried to provide some context for them. I've also added one more story at the beginning, because it ties in to the one at the end.
