The first Foundation trilogy (Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation) won the Hugo Award in 1965 for "Best All-Time Series." It's science fiction on the grand scale; one of the classics of the field. After Asimov's death in 1992, his estate began licensing the creative rights to the Foundation series to authors Gregory Benford, Greg Bear, and David Brin, among others.
