Suzy McKee Charnas

Bio: Suzy McKee Charnas was born and educated in New York City, attending Barnard College (1961) and, after a two-year stint in Nigeria with the Peace Corps, New York University (MAT, 1965). She taught at the New Lincoln School in New York until Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital hired her away as a curriculum consultant for their high school drug-abuse treatment program. In 1969 she married and moved to New Mexico, where she began writing fiction full-time. Her first novel, WALK TO THE END OF THE WORLD (1974), was a John W. Campbell Award finalist. Her SF and fantasy books and stories published since then have won her the Hugo Award, the Nebula Award, the Mythopoeic Society's Award for young-adult fantasy, and the James Tiptree Jr. Literary Award--twice.

Her career branched out into theatre when she turned her novella "Unicorn Tapestry" into a play, first staged at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Through a serendipitous Internet connection she has also revised the book and lyrics to the stage musical NOSFERATU.

by Suzy McKee Charnas
During a performance of Faust, the beautiful young soprano Christine is kidnapped by the hideous "Phantom" of the Paris Opéra and taken to his Gothic lair beneath the city. The phantom's powers are almost supernatural, his tempers often lethal. However, Christine is no victim. Though she must accede to his demands that she become his wife and protégé, she does so on her terms, and the dark romance that follows becomes an enduring legend. 2 Boobs [MultiFormat]
by Suzy McKee Charnas
Suzy Charnas offers a fresh perspective on alienated youth through a very old fantasy idea. Puberty is tough on anyone, but especially on "well-endowed" girls, who get a lot of unwanted attention in addition to the monthly curse. When you're a werewolf, well, the curse takes on a whole new meaning, and bad things happen to people who hassle you. 3 Strange Seas [MultiFormat]
by Suzy McKee Charnas
"I am woven through your past, as you are through mine--and both of us through theirs, the sea-peoples'." Hugo- and Nebula Award-winner Charnas has written a book about humans, her own past, and how our lives have always been intertwined with the creatures of the seas. Strange Seas is Charnas' first nonfiction book, and her first eBook. An investigation into personal questions about herself and her writing grew to encompass not just her past, but the pasts of all of us. "I saw a lot of closed do... more info>> (Published: 2001)

4 The Vampire Tapestry [MultiFormat]
by Suzy McKee Charnas
Hailed by Stephen King as "scary and suspenseful" and "unputdownable," and by Peter Beagle, author of The Last Unicorn, as "The best vampire novel I have ever read," The Vampire Tapestry examines the classic monster as a biological, rather than supernatural, predator who awakens from hibernation every few decades needing to relearn human culture. After years of secret effort, the self-styled Edward Weyland has become a respected anthropology professor and director of a sleep research lab. With r... more info>> (Published: 1980)

5 Unicorn Tapestry [MultiFormat]
by Suzy McKee Charnas
Dr. Floria Landauer's newest patient, Edward Weyland, suffers from the delusion that he's a vampire, not the undead variety but a predator that's co-evolved with humans to drink their blood. This idea has threatened his career as an anthropologist, and he needs a bill of good health to resume his position. However, as Weyland describes his "fantasy," Floria suspects she's being handed the truth dressed up as a lie, and the therapy becomes a fascinating contest of wills where trust and respect vi... more info>> (Published: 1980) Locus Poll Award Nominee, World Fantasy Award Nominee, Nebula Award(R) Winner
