Jen Black
Alert me when new Jen Black titles are added

Bio: Jen Black learned to read by following the words her father read to her from her brother?s comics Rover and Eagle, so she formed a taste for adventurous literature way before going to school! The urge to write arrived with school essays and was channelled into numerous small, close packed diaries over the years. That habit stopped dead when her mother peeked one day and read things she shouldn?t have! Jen started work at seventeen in 1961, got married and somewhere in her twenties began to think seriously of writing a book. The first draft of Banners ran to sixteen pages that mutated, changed and went on hold when she went to university and got a degree in English and history. She came out with images of Anglo Saxon Art and Archaeology and warriors bright in their ring mail whirling through her head and the writing began again and continued through a divorce and a new marriage. Working with books and information has been a constant all through a long working life, and Jen retired from her post as Manager of a college library team in October 2005. Living in the Tyne valley in the north east of England, only a stone?s throw from the Roman Wall and with a castle that dates from the 1100?s just round the corner, there?s glorious countryside all around Jen?s home in Prudhoe. It?s barely forty miles to the border with Scotland, which is a constant temptation; Jen has long had a love affair with the far north west of Scotland and maybe one day she?ll find there?s a reason for it. Strangely enough, her father?s family have been traced back to the 1700?s on the Welsh and English border?a place she has never been. But her maternal grandfather worked in Skye, so if ever there?s time, perhaps there?s more to learn. The family, now grown up, lives in Australia, so a long visit is planned for 2006 after we?ve recovered from our skiing trip to Banff at Christmas!
