Gene O'Neill
Alert me when new Gene O'Neill titles are added

Bio: Gene O'Neill lives in the Napa Valley with his wife Kay, a subsitute primary grade teacher at St. Helena Elementary School. They have been married for thirty-six years, their grown children, Gavin and Kay Dee, living in San Francisco and NYC.

Gene has two degrees (Sac State, U. Of Minn) neither having anything to do with writing (or much of anything else). At one time or another he has been a Marine, carried mail, worked on seismic crews exploring for oil, been a Right-of-Way Agent (appraised, acquired, condemned, managed real property to build the interstate highway system around Sacramento) been a contract specialist for AAFES (contracting to bring private services like barbers, cleaners, beauty parlours onto military bases), and vice president of a manufacturing plant. Gene describes his employment background as "rich, varied, colorful." His brother-in-law, the president of the above plant, describes Gene as more of a "disgruntled ne-er-do-well."

After surviving the Clarion Workshop in writing in 1979 Gene has seen over 80 of his stories published, perhaps most notably: two in the Twilight Zone Magazine, six in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction (two of these reprinted in Fiction in France, another one picked up in Best Spanish Sf for 1992), two in Pulpsmith, four in Science Fiction Age, others in Dragon, Fantasy Book, Cemetery Dance, Tomorrow, Starshore, and anthologies like Dead End: City Limit, Cemetery Sonata II, Best of Horrorfind 2000, Darkness Rising 2, Dark Fantasy: Best of 2000, and Men & Women of Letters. Several of his stories have garnered Nebula and Stoker recommendations.

Gene writes full time now, recently finishing two novels--The Burden of Indigo and Shadow of the Dark Angel--that will be published by Prime Books in 2002/2003 along with another collection, IN DARK CORNERS. Upcoming in 2002 are original stories in Redsine and in the anthologies Darkness Rising, RAW, Decadence, and Dead Cats Bouncing. His collection of eight stories with an introduction by Kim Stanley Robinson and an afterword by Scott Edelman, Ghost, Spirits, Computers & World Machines, originally published by Imaginary worlds in hc, was released again in tpb by Prime Books in late 2001 with a stunning cover by Geoff Priest. He appeared as the featured author in November 2001 on Twilight Tales website and during the 1st Quarter 2002 at Dark Fluidity.com. He is currently working on a third novel, Deathflash, which is under contract to Prime.
