Damon Knight

Bio: (1922-2002) Grandmaster of science fiction Damon Knight was born in 1922 and knew even as a boy that he'd be a writer some day. And what a writer. It would be difficult to find another individual who has influenced so many aspects of the science fiction genre. He has been an editor, an anthologist, a teacher at the most prominent writer's workshops (Milford, which he founded, and Clarion), he founded Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and the Nebula awards. But above all, Damon Knight is a writer. His short story output has spanned five decades, and his work becomes richer and more powerful seemingly by the year. At Fictionwise, we have a selection of his early work as well as some recent stories, allowing you to trace his development. Damon Knight's work always includes richly drawn characters, interesting plots, and endings that are always satisfying and often surprising. [Photo by Richard Wilhelm.]

Like any truly great work of science fiction, Knight's novel boldly pursues the ramifications of his premise. What will people do if there is no longer any need to work for any... more info>>

As a newspaper publisher, Robert James Dahls found the news disconcerting; in fact, inexplicable. Dahl catches wind of a large experimental facility that is being led by the U.S. Department of Defense. His suspicions coincide with the str... more info>> (Published: 1954)
