Oh dear. Surely this couldn't be the place that Mr. Walsh was talking about. He said the detective had told him that she would find Atlanta here. Thoughtfully, Montana McKinley Reeves stood outside the Paradise Saloon and bit her bottom lip in anxiety. It definitely did not look like the type of place her sister would be found in. However, no matter how reluctant she was to enter the building, she needed to find out. There was only one way to do it, and that was to go inside.
Even outside she could hear the loud piano playing and raised voices. Uncertain and nervous, she was still apprehensive about entering such an establishment. Don't be a ninny, nothing's going to happen to you in there. She told herself sternly and she had to be certain if her sister was here. After all she'd come all this way to find her.
With growing determination, she lifted her black veil over her face, squared her shoulders and drew in a deep breath. With shaking hands she pushed open one of the swinging doors and stepped into the loud smoke filled room.
Her eyes widened at the noise, it was even louder in here than outside. She cringed from the overwhelming sound. With wide frightened eyes sweeping the room with a swift glance, she did not notice the speculating looks she received. Hastily and fearful she searched for her sister.
When her eyes locked on a man wiping a large wide counter across the room, she determinedly moved through the crowded room until she reached him. She was naively unaware of the interest and speculation she was causing as the patrons of the saloon followed her every step with their eyes.
Montana breathed a sigh of relief and smiled up at the large barrel of a man behind the counter. Hoping he would be able to help her, she worked up the courage to speak to him. "Good evening sir, it's a pleasant evening. Don't you agree? I wonder though if you could assist me?"
When the man behind the counter only gapped open mouthed at her, Montana sighed and shook her head in exasperation. What was the matter with this foolish man? Growing annoyed, whe turned slightly and for the first time noticed the tall dark haired man staring down at her with heated intensity. She gave him a weak smile. "Sir, how nice to make your acquaintance. If you would be so kind could you tell me if there is a Miss Atlanta Georgina Reeves working here?"
