Gail listened to his brief summation about who they were and why they were on the run, glad he hadn't dwelt on her stupidity in ever allowing Leon into her life. He mentioned that she'd seen a black car drive by this morning which was why they believed the hit man might know the wreck was theirs as the license plate was still legible.
But she wasn't prepared for Krystal bursting out with, "Oh, then you're just like us. Hiding out."
Anita nodded. "When Jason refused to go to the ER, I thought it must be something like that. Yes, you are perfectly free to hide out with us until your agency can pick the two of you up."
"Remember, I told you once the hit man finds out there were no bodies in the burned car, he may focus on the houses nearby," Jason reminded her.
"Dagon House is pretty much the only one," Anita told him. "Likely enough, by the time he discovers you're still alive, you're likely to be gone."
He shook his head. "I hope so, but I can't promise. Dagon House? Evidently named after that demonic creature on the gate post we saw when we came in."
"I agree it's nasty looking," Krystal said, "but you called it demonic. Why?"
"Because I once took a class in demonology for a weird case we had," Jason told her. "He's a lesser god of evil from ancient times, and as nasty as he looks."
Krystal and Anita exchanged a long look before Anita said. "Evil can be anywhere. It doesn't depend on ancient gods."
"Amen," Krystal echoed.
