Chapter One
Year 2020
Drink glasses clinked, the smell of roasted chicken filled the air, and the juke box played in the background, while Blair Sinclair mixed another Long Island Ice tea. She had two hours to go before her shift would be over, and just her luck, Club Fifteen was packed.
"Do you believe this place? It's Wednesday night and we're full. What the hell is going on?" Marci grumbled and poured a draft beer.
"When has that stopped New Yorkers? They don't need a reason to party." Blair placed the drink she'd made in front of the customer and added it to his tab.
"Why don't you go sit for a few, while you still can? You haven't had a break yet, and we're all caught up for the moment." Marci pushed her out of the bar, smiling. "I know you want to call your sister."
Blair grabbed a bottle of water, laughing. "Fine, but call me if you need me." She walked through the door to the break room and strolled to her locker. She had been lucky to land this job after she moved here, two months ago. It not only supported her, but she was able to watch for any sign of the werecats that stalked her. Anyone that was anyone came into this bar to scout for information.
She opened her locker and grabbed her phone. Her sister Lizzie had been late checking in. All seven of her sisters were supposed to call her, and inform her when they had reached their separate destinations. Blair flicked open the phone, and hit number 7, Lizzie's number.
Being the oldest, Blair always felt responsible for each of her siblings, even her stupid brothers. Their parents' murder, over forty years ago, had left her responsible for holding the family together. "Damn it Lizzie... answer your stupid phone."
If she could have, Blair would have used their connection to speak to her, but too many hunted her and her sisters, there was no way someone wouldn't notice the rise in power in the area.
"Hey sis?" Lizzie answered on the six ring.
Blair sighed. "It's about time. Are you okay?" Blair sank into the chair and took another deep breath.
"Yea, I finally lost the vampire on my trail, but it took an major detour before I could make it to my destination," she grumbled.
"Good, everyone has checked in. Taz called, said the Weiss pack and Blankenship packs have joined forces to find us. So, as soon as you're able to make contact with the Sanctum, do so. Don't tell anyone except the house master, who you are, and Lizzie, be careful?" Blair's hand shook as she grabbed the water bottle and took a drink.
"Blair, you have to stop worrying about us. You've trained us well. It's you we're worried about. You were the one who lead everyone away from us. Are you at your target?"
Blair smiled and sat back. "Yes, I'm here. It took me about two months longer then I had planned, but I've made it. Haven't made contact yet, but will try tonight after work. Don't forget to check in next week. I have to get back to work." She got up moving to her locker.
Lizzie laughed. "You know you don't have to work? You have plenty of money, and as long as you don't use too much, it won't draw attention to you."
She shook her head. "It is better to appear in need then to show you have money. We don't need the attention money brings. Anyway, you know I can't stand sitting in an apartment and waiting. I love you Lizzy, be safe." Blair leaned her forehead against the cold metal of her locker and closed her eyes.
A single tear slipped down her check, as she closed the phone. At the age of eighty, she was just barely a teenager in her world. Blair had learned fast to trust no one with their family secrets, after their parents' deaths. Only a few charmed families had the power that hers did. Each child had a special gift, along with the other powers that came with being a witch or warlock.
Being the oldest of fifteen, with seven sisters and seven brothers, Blair's gift was that of life. She could heal anyone, and with this gift came the price of immortality, like that of a vampire. At the age of fifteen, her father and mother had taken her aside, and had informed her of her duties. All her family had long life spans, because of their powers, but she would out live every one of her family members. Just the thought, of losing another family member, brought an ache to her lonely heart like nothing else could.
