"What are you going to do?" Deena wanted to know. "You just hailed out of there without saying anything when they gave us leave; just wanted to know if I wanted to come with you."
"First, I--"
"We."
"Good enough. We're going to make sure nobody's 'borrowed' any of the land, and make sure my neighbors know who owns it again, and who gave it to her. Then we're heading down into Thendara and help put the Guild together. I've got a feeling there's gonna be some opposition...."
"You, too?" Deena shook her head so hard her brown thatch trembled. "I thought you didn't put any stock in premonitions."
"Not a premonition; it's logic. Most men aren't gonna be happy about us or our charter. When we were just crazed women with nobody protecting us but Avarra or our own steel, nobody cared. But with the Charter--we got legal protection. Man comes lookin' for his wayward wife now, we got the law on our side." Tayksa sat up, and her dark hair fell into her eyes; she shook it away. "No, they aren't gonna be happy. 'Specially if comynara ladies take a look at us and decide they like what they see."
"Some peace."
"Yeah, it won't be real peaceful for us. I guess there'll be about one bad incident; Varzil'll stand for us, an' it'll all simmer down to resentment. But there's gonna have to be an object lesson, seems like there always has to be an object lesson."
