Cinco de Mayo Murders [MultiFormat]
eBook by Sydnie Goodell

eBook Category: Mystery/Crime
eBook Description: The Cinco de Mayo celebration by Gringos and Hispanics n Sierra Vista, Arizona, culminates at the same time the crime spree of a serial killer comes to a halt. Unlike most serial killers who take a memento from their victims, this one leaves a token, but never the same article. At the first crime scene he leaves a stack of pancakes; at the second, a stuffed toy camel; at the third, a dolphin-shaped balloon; at the fourth, a freshly cut iris; and at the fifth, he leaves a picture of Geronimo. What is the significance of these tokens to the murders? Do the killings, starting on May first and ending on May fifth, have anything to do with Cinco de Mayo?

Great Good OK Poor

Before Carlos could respond, Sheriff Sturling pulled onto the berm and got out of his car. "I'm not a particularly religious person," he said, "but this is really hitting below the belt." He made several turns around the body and then asked, "Are there any similarities to the other victims?"

"Well," Carlos answered, "the other victims are white also; two blondes, and two with brown hair. This one has reddish-brown hair."

"Anything else at all in common?"

"All are about the same age--mid-twenties, all good-looking, somewhat tall for women."

"I don't think it's the same perp," Beau said. "The others' clothes were either layin' around or still on the bodies. It looks like this one was undressed and then re-dressed in kind of a weird outfit."

"Any significance you can think of concerning Geronimo's picture?" L.B. asked.

"Could the perp be one of those guys who jump out of airplanes?" Beau asked?

"Hmmm," L.B. mused. "Check to see if there are any paratroopers at the Fort. On the other hand, the Buffalo Soldiers used to ride horses. They didn't go flying around in airplanes, but check it out anyway."

The ME arrived and gave the victim the usual cursory examination. "Same MO," he sighed, "with the exception of the stabbing in the chest and the way the corpse is dressed. Could there be a copy cat?"

"I suppose there could be," L.B. answered. "If you find anything unusual give me a call before you get the official report done."

"When are these killings going to stop, sheriff?"

"Don't you start, Ben. I'm getting enough flack from the media to last a while."
