H'mm. I did think we'd manage a better turn-out for this meeting. It's not just another boring weekly update on a crank project--you ought to know that. So much has happened since last Monday! With any luck we're headed for a Nobel Prize, and my little presentation today is going to be famous ... not just through a lot of pop-science bestsellers but in history books, for goodness' sake. Of course you and the team will all receive full credit.
So. Hello John, hello Carol, hello Patrick, and I have three faxed apologies for not coming in to the lab today, plus four more by e-mail.
As you know, last Tuesday we had our lucky break and the V-syndrome hypothesis can now be taken as strongly confirmed. I also have a extra surprise for you, just in this morning! But first, let's have a look at Patrick's splendid scanning electron micrograph of V itself. When I finish my paper I shall certainly give him special credit. Will you do the honours, Patrick? What? Throat? Laryngitis? Doesn't stop you working an overhead projector, does it? Ladies--lady--and gentlemen, the star of the show....
