"Almost home," Trou spoke gleefully. He couldn't wait to see his family again and to greet his niece or nephew into the world. He leaned back in the chair as his ship drifted through space. Ten planets away from Kapnek and close to home. When he stood from the chair and started to make his way off the bridge, the proximity alarm went off. He spun around as his heart skipped a beat and glanced down at the monitor. A ship was coming upon his with a blistering pace. Trou leaned over the console with his hands grasping the edge. His eyes widened at what he saw on the monitors and radar. "What the hell?" he muttered.

"Evasive maneuvers," he ordered the ship. He began to type in the command to bring up the weapons when the ship dipped. His hands shook as he fastened the harness around his chest and clasped it between his thighs. "Who the hell are you and what do you want?" he spoke through clenched teeth. Beads of sweat popped out on his forehead and he reached up to wipe them away with the back of his hand.

The ship spun around to avoid being hit by a laser from the unknown ship. "Shit." The second laser barely missed him. The ship spun to face the enemy, his finger on the fire button and he pressed it. The other ship maneuvered out of the return of fire. "Shit." The harsh word echoed throughout the bridge. He pressed the button again and the other ship moved out of the way.

His ship took a direct hit causing the lights to dim for a second before staying on. Sparks flew from the control panel causing him to raise his hands and stand. "What the hell did they hit me with?" he growled roughly. The lights on the bridge grew dim then brightened again when the emergency generators came on.

"It is unknown at this time; the type of weapon used is not in my data banks," the computer informed him.

Trou reached up to run his fingers through his blonde hair then ran the hands over his face. The ship shook again when it was hit. "Get us out of here now!" he roared and jumped back into the chair and strapped the harness over his body. He glanced down at the monitor when the ship jerked and began to speed through space.

"Damn, they're still on our stern," Trou muttered hoarsely. He couldn't seem to shake the other ship. No matter what maneuvering was done or the speed he was traveling, they were still behind him. He pounded a fist, hard, on the control panel. At least the ship was dodging whatever weapons they were firing upon him, even the new one.

He sped past Kapnek and he glanced at his home world with longing in his eyes. He didn't want to land there, not with whomever it was chasing after him. Not wanting whomever it was to be running loose on his world, Trou kept traveling through space as fast as he could. He'd return to Kapnek as soon as he lost the person firing on his ship.

"Do you have an identity of the ship?" he asked the computer.

The ship's computer responded, "Negative."

Trou slammed a hand against the console then moved his gaze to the radar; they were getting closer. "Shit." He'd thought the ship Taira had given him was the fastest in the entire galaxy, she'd thought wrong. The ship chasing him was even faster. "What the hell kind of ship is that?"

"The type of ship isn't in my data banks."

The faster his ship went, the faster they followed right on his tail. Trou watched through the radar screen with amazement. Sweat beaded along his forehead; he reached up with his arm to wipe it away. His heart was racing wildly; he wasn't trained for a space fight, only ground battles. Trou glanced down at the radar screen; they were getting too close for his liking. "Damn," he muttered harshly, he couldn't seem to shake them off his tail. As hard as he tried, he couldn't get the away from this ship.

He returned fire whenever possible but the lasers weren't even striking their ship. He knew that he was losing the battle and was afraid that he would never see his sister again, or her baby.

Trou's ship began to lose power and was slowing down. He'd taken too many hits to keep it going. He was losing power and the emergency generators couldn't keep up with the fast pace.

"I'm sorry, Elisa," he muttered softly. "It looks like I won't be making it home after all. But I'm going to try. Damn hard." He shook his head as he sat down in the chair only to stand suddenly. "I'm not going down without a fight," he growled. He spun around and marched across the bridge to the weapons cache. He pried it open and took out one the lasers tucked away inside. He checked the charge and it was full. His shoulder hit the bulkhead, hard, causing pain to shoot down to his fingers.

Someone was about to board his ship. His heart hammered and blood rushed through his veins. "They're not about to get my ship. Taira will have my head if something were to happen to one of her ships," Trou spoke roughly. He wiped his mouth and waited.

He glanced over his shoulder at the sound of pounding feet. Trou reached up to push a lock of blonde hair from his eyes. "I'm waiting," he called out softly. He braced his back against the bulkhead and aimed the laser right at the door. He wasn't about to let them take him without a fight. He waited patiently as the steps grew closer to him. The laser held in a tight grip, armed and ready.

The pounding footsteps were getting closer; Trou gripped the laser even tighter. He darted across the bridge toward the door and stood beside it. "Come and get me you son of bitches," he muttered.

The door slid open and one of the men stepped through it. Trou fired the laser and it hit the man dead center in his back. He didn't even have to time to cry out when his body hit the floor. Trou waited for the second man by crouching low behind a chair. He didn't have to wait long. The second man jumped through the door firing his laser at Trou.

Trou crouched down; returning fire but the second man rolled over onto his side, still firing the laser. Trou made his way across the room and hid behind one of the other chairs and fired at the man. The laser blast struck home on the second man and Trou stood. His breaths were deep and fast when he stood. He should have known there was a third man. He was too busy trying to save his own skin that he didn't see him until it was too late. The next thing he knew, his world faded to black.

"He put up a good fight. We lost two men because of him," Segal informed Draca. They moved to the side as two men carried Trou's body through the ship and into an awaiting cell. "His ship is set for self-destruct," he added as an afterthought.

"Good, I don't want anyone to come looking for him." Draca cupped his chin as he watched the doctor placed a thin, black collar around Trou's neck. Once the collar was snapped in place three lights came on instantly. Red, blue and yellow gleamed brightly against the black background of the collar. "He will be a good asset to us then. He will keep an eye on my daughter if he knows what's good for him and if he wants to live. Once my daughter is safely sold then he'll be terminated." Draca slipped a small black box into a pocket along his thigh and patted it softly.

"Inform me when he awakens." Draca spun on his heel and stormed out of the room with Segal right on his heels. The search for the man to watch over his daughter was over. Now I can go on with the auction as planned. Now I return home and finish setting it up.

"Lita won't like this one bit," Segal said. He didn't like what Draca had planned for this man and Lita wouldn't either once they returned home.

Draca stopped to spin around to face him. "She will learn to like it, if not, she will know what the consequences are."

His head hurt like hell. It felt as if someone let off a laser canon inside of his skull. Trou rolled over onto his back then snapped his eyes open. He knew instantly that he wasn't on his ship. He felt something tight around his neck; his hands went around his neck and felt the soft leather of a collar there. Trou jolted upright on the bed and muttered harshly, "What the hell?" He didn't need anymore probing than that, he knew what it was. What the hell is going on here and who are these people? Dread washed over him and a sinking feeling filled his stomach.

A slave collar. And they were prohibited in the entire galaxy.

Trou lowered himself back on the bed with an arm covering his eyes. "Who the hell captured me?" He had an idea but he didn't want to know. His eyes went to the door to his cell and froze.

"I did. You will do as I say or I will kill you." A well-built man with graying hair stood at the door and was grinning at him.

"Believe me, better men than you have tried and failed." Trou uncovered his eyes to face the man who'd captured him. He knew that face instantly; this was the man he needed to find. He couldn't stop the grimace from appearing on his face just as he turned his focus away from the pirate. Slowly, he turned back to Draca but the man was already gone.

"Of all the men in the galaxy to capture me, it had to be the most notorious pirate of them all. Draca," Trou muttered and covered his face with his arm and groaned.

"He will have to do," Draca said before he stormed down the corridor the bridge. "He is a fighter. He did take out two of my men." He didn't like the fact that Trou was young and healthy, but time was already running out to have someone suitable to watch over his daughter, which was why he had the collar placed around his captive's neck.

"I wonder how Lita is going to take the news that she's going to be watched around the clock?"

Draca grinned knowingly. "I can handle my own daughter, and if she knows what's good for her, she'll do as she's told."

Segal saw the look in Draca's eyes, and knew too well what the man meant. He'd been there too many times since the day Draca had captured him. Segal also knew what one of those collars could do to a man if he ever disobeyed Draca's orders. He'd worn one once before and had lived to tell about it. Electrical impulses spread throughout the body, knocking a person out. If the setting was set too high, it could kill a person.

"Your father is coming home today," Matta informed Lita when she stormed into the younger woman's bedroom. "He'll be here in five minutes."

"Five minutes?" There wasn't enough time for Lita to make her escape as planned. Her heart roared--she'd been planning to leave that night and with her father home his men were sure to be partying all night. There wasn't going to be an escape, she was doomed to a fate that she didn't want. Her heart constricted then filled with pain. Her lips trembled when she glanced away from Matta. This can't be happening. She lifted a hand to her hair and grabbed a fistful. I've been preparing for this escape for too long and now I won't be able to do it as planned. I'll have to wait and bide my time. That is what I have to do. She let go of the lock of hair she had a tight hold on and turned back to Matta. I hope it's not too late to escape now. If my father finds out what I have planned...

"There has to be another way," Lita told Matta. "You know I can't stay here. Not with what he has planned for me." She hated the way that she was whining but she couldn't help it. She needed to make the older woman understand her need to leave Lestar. Lita's hands gripped Matta's shoulders and squeezed.

"My dear, if there is a will there is a way." Matta darted out of the bedroom before she could say anything else that may get her into trouble.

Lita watched Matta leave her room. "I can still do this. I have to. I'll just have to plan to leave on another day. Before the auction," she whispered softly. "Security will be even tighter with my father home and the closer it gets to the day of the auction." She went to the window to peer outside into the garden when she heard the familiar roar of her father.

Her whole body grew stiff when she saw him until her eyes landed on a man that was being pulled behind him. "What have you done?" she asked him even though he wasn't going to answer her. She noticed the slave collar around the blonde-haired man's neck. "Tell me that you didn't bring home another slave. We have plenty as it is, unless you're going to have him as a part of your crew," her voice was a hoarse whisper. She pressed her fingers against the glass and tried to take a closer look at the blonde-haired man.

There was something about the man that pulled at her heartstrings. Her palms grew damp and her heart pounded wildly. Lita frowned and it caused a crease in the middle of her forehead.

She spun away from the window and darted across the room. The door opened for her and she stepped through it. Her feet echoed through the quiet corridor as she ran down the hallway and then the stairs. Just as she reached the last step, the door flew open and it caused her to jump back. Her heart skipped a beat when her father stepped through the front door, his voice booming as he gave out orders to his men and the servants around him. His eyes landed on her and he grinned. "Just the person that I wanted to see."

He turned to Segal. "See how dutiful she is? She comes out of her room just to greet her father when he returns after being away for such a long time." He turned to give his daughter a wide grin. He waved a hand for to come to him which she obeyed reluctantly.
