eBook Category: Science Fiction
eBook Description: Term 1: Space travel. The module covered bodily travel by inter-space flight against gravity; the invisibility quotient of disappearing and appearing elsewhere in a blink; the maneuvering of special crafts. All these lessons Jat Cole had mastered. What he had allowed to skip his mind was the primordial transportation of dissolution, glossed over in theory. Now, as invisible arrows pierced every aspect of him, he understood what indeed it actually felt like to be dissolved.

YE SAY YE'VE NEVER 'EARD OF DE GLOW? Dat's hard to believe. Dey jist de meanest, nastiest, most terrible gang o' outlaw g-bikies ever assembled in de known planets. Same meanies dat now live on de other side o' De Bridge: never 'eard tell o' dem? Surely Citron, den, you must know of. Dey sing 'bout dat danged warrior, say he ferocious as a cubbin' cat, call 'im de leader o' de gang named de Glow. You 'eard tell o' Citron? Bet you must 'ave. No? Din what I reckon is you don't know neither why dey's called De Glow. Seen dat danged light, dat eerie glow dat surrounds 'em as dey torpedo along de edge o' de world on dem power bikies? If you ain't seen none a dat, den you de only one in Jerusalem. Beg yore pardon--you de only one in O'kitchila. Well, you 'eard tell o' dem now, I reckon, and dis ain't too bright news if you live at de edge o' de planet, a world you kin only see halfway across because de oder side is completely enveloped in dark wind. De Glow. Everyone in O'kitchila 'eard tell o' de gang, so I reckon yore a stranger. And because o' yore strangerhood, bet you ain't got no clue what de Bridge goes across, if it be water or it be land. You kin stand on de bank but will see nothin' but blackness. Same blackness dat de Seepops found. Damn Seepops.

* * * *

Room: dat what de problem was on Homeworld. Too many peoples, never 'nuff room. So dey sent out Seepops, peoples like us, to build colonies on new worlds. Seepops found dis world, chile, same as dey found O'kitchila, Ific, Yber and Enaka. And dey settled in it.

Den de damned Congloms ruined it all.

Congloms, dey de ones what discovered how to do de condensin': makin' peoples little and all so's dey would be room 'nuff fer everybody. Congloms fixed dat, yessir dey did. Made peoples little, den come lookin' fer de Seepops. Wanted 'em all back. Needed 'em to do de hard work. So dey sent out de Finders to round 'em up and gets 'em. Yep, gets 'em all de way back to Homeworld. Damned Congloms!

Thought dey had it made, dey did, till de U'Grelians came.

Dem mighty U'Grelians backtracked a Finder and decided dey'd like to have Homeworld fer dey selves. Survival o' de species! Dat were de cause o' de war, and don't make no mistake bout it: another war like dis war likely be de one dat gonna destroy de entire galaxy to bits.

Come a time when de Congloms mostly gone, Seepops mostly gone, both o' dem holdin' on, tryin' to outlast de U'Grelians. Den dey was sendin' ships out again, lookin' fer peoples like us to take back an' fight dey war fer 'em. We wuz de last o' de migrant tribes, and all we could do was sit here. Waitin' to see who won and whether dey leave us alone er keeps on tryin' fer to round us up. Never knowed when a Gatherer ship would break atmosphere and crash in. Never knowed when we might be de next ones goin' back. Never knowed when next a Finder might be walkin' in, stoppin' by in our own world. Not fer tea, hell no, but to catch peoples to labor for hisself.

And in de meantime, we had to deal with de likes o' Citron and De Glow!

Jat Cole was a recent graduate. He was now a licensed finder and had a diploma and two references to prove it. The first reference was from Master Merrit of Ide-Glas Finders Academy, to whom he had been apprentice. This reference outlined in glowing terms Jat's academic achievement. The second reference was equally fulsome, not surprisingly, given that it was from his very own Uncle Pinot, who boasted links to the Positives Council, and was in fact a member.
