eBook Description: An Audio Archive presention of the Christmas episode of The Bob Hope Show for 1953! Filled with comedy, music and warm Christmas cheer, it's a nostalgic look back at one of America's great entertainers in the process of establishing what became a true American tradition for many many years... The Bob Hope Christmas Specials. Bob Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope in 1903 and, just like his longtime friend George Burns, lived to be just over 100 years old. He appeared in vaudeville, on Broadway, on radio and television, in movies, and was beloved by millions of Americans and U.S. military personnel for his years of USO performances. Bob Hope is a genuine American "rags-to-riches" story. Imigrating as a child from England he rose from truly humble beginnings to be not only an entertainment icon, but an American icon as well. Hope's career in broadcasting spanned sixty-four years and included a long association with NBC. His Christmas specials were popular favorites and often featured a performance of "Silver Bells" from his 1951 film The Lemon Drop Kid. His first regular radio appearances were in 1937, but he was offered his own show in 1938 and The Pepsodent Radio Show Starring Bob Hope was born. Hope did his last show for this series in April of 1956. Hope developed a format and delivery style that was repeated endlessly by his writers over the years. You can hear this in the Pepsodent shows, from the classic Hope opening monologue to the sketch comedy and musical duets with the guests. And you can hear this even more clearly on the annual Christmas shows. This Audio Archive presentation is an example of just such a Bob Hope Christmas episode of The Pepsodent Radio Show from 1953. Special guest Frank Sinatra is heard in comedy sketches, singing novelty duets with Bob and in a featured performance of "South Of The Border" with Les Brown and His Band of Reknown. Here are two of the greatest entertainers in show business, in one great classic program of Old Time Radio, performing live for the nation's radio listeners on Christmas Eve in this Audio Archive presentation of The Bob Hope Show for Christmas 1953! Preceded by a short introduction and biographical information from The Audio Archive host, OTR fan and aficianado, Bill Mills. (program time: 28:56 )
