"You know who I think should ask me to Homecoming?" Cara asked her best friend over the phone. She leaned closer to the mirror and applied a thin layer of mascara to her eyelashes as she waited for a reply.
"Hmm..." said Allyson. Although Cara couldn't see her, she feigned a look of deep concentration. "I'm just going to take a wild guess here. Mitchell?"
"Yes!" Cara's wide smile reflected brightly in the mirror. "He is the hottest person I've ever laid eyes on. Not to mention the nicest person. Do you remember the time he offered me his tuna sandwich because I had absolutely nothing for lunch but a juice box? And he barely even knew me then!"
"I might recall that incident, yes." Allyson hopped onto her bed and focused her attention on the ceiling. "But as you always say, you believed it happened for a reason. Now we need to move on and focus on the present. Who are we hanging out with tonight?"
"I talked to Jeremy, and we're picking him up at seven. He has to have dinner with his parents before he can come out with us. Pete might meet up with us if he's allowed to leave the house. His parents are pissed because he got home late last night," Cara explained as she quickly placed all her make-up products back in their case.
"So that's four people, but we're meeting up with two of them later." Allyson sighed. "I have a feeling I know what we'll be talking about for the next three hours."
"Mitchell Cardell!" Cara squealed. She ran a hand through her blonde hair to apply the perfect amount of poof to it and to ensure that the light curls flowed perfectly. She heard a beep. "Oh, hang on, Allyson, I've got someone on the other line. Hello?" Cara snuck one last glance at herself in the mirror before walking out of the bathroom.
"Hey, Cara!" Paul's voice rumbled in her ear. "How's it goin'?"
"Pretty good, Paul. What's up?"
"Wonderin' what you were doin' tonight. Some friends and I were thinkin' about headin' up to see the new action movie at the theatre. Wanna join?"
"Sure. I'll be with Allyson and Jeremy tonight, so they'll come along too. What time?"
"Movie starts at seven-thirty. Shouldn't be too crowded since that concert's goin' on tonight. So say we'll meet you and your friends at seven-ten?"
"Sounds good. See you then," Cara said. She poised her finger over the flash button.
"Peace out." Paul hung up and Cara returned to her conversation with Allyson.
"Looks like we have plans tonight," she said as she opened the refrigerator and took a long swig from a bottle of water.
