Introduction
This story takes place in the City of Chicago. It is a story of love, crime, mystery, corruption, and danger. It is a story about criminals who'll do anything, even kill, for money. And, it is a story about the people in law enforcement who are committed to protecting the citizens of their city even at the risk of their own lives.
The story is fictional, and the characters, events, and locations (except one) are not real. However, Frank Salzano, the hero of this book, could be any one of the thousands of detectives in the United States who are committed to law enforcement, and, who work tirelessly to bring those who break the law to justice.
I could have said so much about the City of Chicago but I chose not to. For example, I could have mentioned that Chicago was incorporated in 1837 and that it comprises 237 square miles of land. Chicago has approximately 2,896,016 residents and more than 200 theatres. In Chicago, there are nearly 200 art galleries and 7300 restaurants, 552 parks, and 26 miles of lake-front. It is also the home of the Sears Tower, the tallest building in the western hemisphere, having 110 stories, as well as the home of Michael Jordan, the world's greatest basketball player. I could have said so much about the great and wonderful City of Chicago. But, again, I chose not to.
When we speak about crime, and the dirty business of illegal drugs, we could be speaking about Los Angeles, Detroit, New York City, or Atlanta, Georgia. Illegal drugs are sold and used in just about every city, town, and village in America. And, where there are those who want these illegal drugs, there are criminals ready and willing to sell it to them.
It takes a special kind of person to go after these low life criminals who think nothing of selling heroine, crack, coke, or marijuana to kids and pregnant women. It takes people who are truly committed to their work and even go so far as to put their own lives on the line. It seems ironic that even as the heroic men and women in law enforcement willingly risk their lives to stop the flow of illegal drugs, the criminal is also committed and is willing to risk his life for the money he gets from the sale of those illegal drugs. This is the reason we cannot praise and honor the men and women in law enforcement enough.
The use of illegal drugs is running rampant in the United States and much can be done to help stop the flow of much of it into our country. But, that's another story. I am hoping that the characters in this book will inspire young men and women who are considering their life's work to consider a career in law enforcement. It is an honorable and rewarding profession, and it is certainly worthwhile, to say the least.
This is the first in a series of detective and crime stories. Frank Salzano will be back along with Nancy, Sammy, and Captain Tunney. Those of you who really enjoy detective stories will like this one. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy.
