eBook Category: Science Fiction
eBook Description: Noted futurist Arthur C. Clarke penned a number of ground-breaking works in science fiction. One such work was 1967's "The Nine Billion Names of God". In this humorous short story, Ken Rand has a bit of fun with Clarke's original concept in a charming send-up. Notes Rand, "Among my most prized possessions are letters from Sir Arthur commenting (favorably) on the story before and after it was printed."

The great writer had just settled down to tea when, before him in the room, a shimmering light hovering just above the floor, caught his eye. Puzzled, he watched as the shimmering intensified, and a form gathered in it. The form coalesced into the shape of a man.

Then the shimmering light faded and the man remained in its place. The man smiled and looked around.

"Mr. Clarke, Arthur C., I presume," the man said, stepping forward and extending a hand.

The writer, startled, took the offered hand, found the grip firm and businesslike.

The visitor was a small man, narrow-shouldered, dapper, crisp. British. The dark suit, correct tie, the bowler, vest, pocket watch and chain, and the shoes. The accent, of course. And the umbrella tucked under one arm.

"How did you--" Clarke began.

"Bell Teleport, of course," the little man said, sitting, crossing a leg over a knee. "Technology Earth science won't have until--well, you won't be around."

"But what about--"
