eBook Description: Langford is known for his comedy, but this story is more horrifying than funny. It traces the development of scientists in their youth, noting the dangerous games they tend to play, and extrapolates this to a future project that may be the last game of all for humanity. Langford tells us that the teenage stunts portrayed here are "largely biographical," making this story even more chilling.

"David Langford's "A Game of Consequences" relates the story of Ceri Evans, a physicist working on a theory in a laboratory. Interspersed with scenes showing her working through the scientific method with her lab assistant, Langford gives much more interesting glimpses into her past. Her childhood friend Sammy's schoolboy pranks give Ceri the interest in physics and provides the impetus for her researches. There is a school of science fiction which seems to delight in bringing the reader to the very edge of the discovery without really extrapolating from it, and "A Game of Consequences" firmly falls into this category." -Steven H Silver, Tangent Online (Learn more about Tangent Online, the Internet's leading SF&F short fiction review website)
