Rob had been lying in bed for at least an hour but he was still wide awake. For some reason that he couldn't figure out, he was strangely restless tonight.
He got up and looked out the window of the big trailer. The last customer had left long ago and the carnival grounds were lonely and deserted.
He poked his head farther out the window, and a flash of light caught his eye. It was one of the guards making his rounds with a flashlight.
Rob plopped back down on his bed and sighed. He might as well go out for a walk.
He got dressed as quietly as he could. He didn't want wake his aunt and uncle, who were sleeping in the next room. They would probably tell him he had to stay in bed.
He chuckled to himself as he thought about something.
His uncle and aunt managed the carnival, and he had begged his parents to let him go with them for a two-week vacation. His parents had agreed and he thought that he was going to be as free as a bird.
But it turned out that his aunt and uncle were just as strict as his parents! Boy, he thought, grown-ups were all alike!
