Alan sat behind the wheel of the silver Camry--or rather what appeared to be a silver Camry--and stared out at the highway rolling toward him, his hands resting limply in his lap. His throat felt caked with dust and his stomach was an empty aching pit. How long had it been since he had had something to eat or drink? Days? Weeks? Surely not weeks; he would have died of thirst by now. Unless of course the car--or whatever it was--was doing something to keep him alive.
