pregnancy, there are 2 major reasons why the majority of women can and do gain fat during their lives. The first reason why women gain fat is from incorrect dieting. The second reason is gaining fat due to hormonal changes?part of every female's unavoidable aging process.
Incorrect Dieting: Have you ever lost weight quickly on a diet, only to gain all of it back and more after a few weeks? With a quick weight loss plan or fad diet, people often can lose 4, 5, 8, or even 10 pounds in a week! But what are those pounds really made of? They are most likely a combination of water (your body is 70% water) and lean muscle tissue, with only a small percentage of the pounds lost from fat. When a woman loses water and lean muscle, she will not look firm and toned?not to mention there will be a large drop in her metabolism and energy level! The weight loss achieved by these quick weight loss programs is almost always temporary because without changing your eating habits and increasing your activity level, the weight surely returns. When the pounds return for a ?permanent? visit, they love coming back as pure fat, not as a combination of fat and muscle--and never purely as muscle. As you can see, dieting by using quick weight loss plans or by drastically limiting or restricting your food intake (low calorie or high-protein diets) creates a vicious cycle and a very unhappy and unhealthy dieter. Hormonal Changes: Did you know that adding fat cells is your body's way of dealing with a change in your hormones? Most women are unaware of the hormonal changes they undergo in the years of perimenopause (the 10 to 15 year period before you actually enter into full menopause) and menopause. (Read the Chapter, IS IT MY HORMONES OR IS IT MY IMAGINATION? in BOOK 3: MAXIMIZE YOUR HEALTH! PREVENT AGING, STOP DISEASE & BALANCE YOUR HORMONES!) Many doctors do not educate their patients about the extensive list of symptoms they may experience in perimenopause: weight gain, insomnia, osteoporosis, hot flashes, migraine headaches, depression, high blood pressure, poor motivation, anxiety, irregular periods, more severe PMS, loss of libido, vaginal dryness, slow thinking, and more. Without the correct knowledge about what to eat and how to exercise, most women are left in the dark. Gaining fat is just one of the major drawbacks of a normal decline in estrogen that most American women battle during perimenopause! Your fat cells begin to enlarge and new ones appear, especially in the abdominal area (an average weight gain of 15 pounds) because these fat cells produce estrogen-like compounds that a woman's body requires and uses to compensate for the decrease in female hormones, particularly estrogen and progesterone. Learn more about eating the right kinds of foods and phytoestrogens in BOOK 2 and learn more about NATURAL HORMONAL BALANCING and disease prevention in BOOK 3!
You may have already heard that women lose muscle tissue as they get older. Studies confirm that a woman's peak bone mass is between the ages of 25 to 30. After 35, a woman can begin to lose up to 1/2 pound of muscle per year, with the greatest bone loss in the first 5 years after menopause. Not only does this contribute to an increased risk of osteoporosis, it automatically raises your risk of obesity (remember, losing muscle lowers your metabolism, which makes you gain fat) and weight-related illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and arthritis. By the time most women are in their 60?s, they have osteoporosis, are overweight or obese, and suffer......
