Sun glances off the white adobe village with enough brightness to strain the unshaded eye.
Joshua looks down into the village from distance, eyes shielded by blue lens, steel rim spectacles. Wearing only faded jeans in the afternoon heat, he sits in a broken-down wicker chair in the shade of his veranda. In one hand, a stick of the local weed smolders. By the side of his chair, a glass of lemonade-tequila slowly evaporates. On the other side, a bottle of tequila, its depths clear as stream water. Joshua draws on the joint in a measured fashion, more from habit than the need for any added high. He idly fingers the stone pendant which clings to the moist hairs of his chest. The sun pulls through the bleached heavens and the afternoon grows longer with shadow.
