The demons watched the frost crunch beneath Lucine's boots as she trudged across ruddy orange ice. The sun hung in the azure sky like a spotlight, painfully bright to look at, yet leaving the landscape in shadow.
Despite Europa's tenuous gravity, her shoulders slumped under the weight of her protective suit. She wanted to lie down and never get up, and yet she forced her leaden legs to carry on. Only the knowledge that the demons were waiting for her to quit made her continue walking. "You won't stop me!" she grated to the demons, who grinned wordlessly at her. "The Lord is my shepherd!" The demons giggled and began bleating like sheep.
