Sunlight ricocheted off the blanket of snow the storm had left over the city. Winter had definitely arrived. Come the end of the workday, every homeowner in the suburbs would have to be out with their shovels.

One man already was, just as Jessica knew he would be. It was Roger, her neighbor across the street. He worked at home, making cabinets in his garage workshop, so he was ready as soon as the weather turned to come out and clear the driveway before his wife returned from shopping.

Wiping his forehead with his handkerchief, Roger unbuttoned his flannel shirt. The air temperature was still near freezing, but the exertion and reflected sunlight fended off the season's effect.

Jessica gazed through her bathroom window at his broad shoulders, nodding approvingly at the action of his neck muscles as he lifted each shovel load. She licked her lips.
