Ted Williams, not the baseball player, pressed the [enter] command for about the millionth time and sat back smiling. He poured the dregs of his fourth pot of coffee into a thickly stained cup, and turned back to watch the computer screen perform acrobatics.
Done, finally done. Over two years ago Omega Software noticed an encryption program Ted posted over the Internet, called him, and hired him over the phone. They expected great things from Ted and were willing to invest whatever it took to make it happen. Overnight Ted went from a night desk clerk at a sleazy hotel to the hottest new programmer on the block. He had his own office, the biggest, fastest computer he had ever seen, and a big fat paycheck every week. Life was good.
