It is the week before the jellyfish, and I am sitting back meditating on whether The Journal of Diagnostic Medicine or Spicy True-Life Stories is more deserving of my refined attention, when Joe Karelli comes in. He is wined up to the eyeballs and maybe a centimetre or so beyond, but tactfully I ignore this, as Joe is apt to become irate when in this condition. Last time he is mildly irate, they are obliged to replace all the windows in Clancy's bar.
"Doc," he says, "I have a little job for you." I tell it to him straight. "I do not touch it if it is a smelly one. Too many of your lady cousins are prey to appendicitis already."
