eBook Description: Holly Winthrop was wanted for questioning in her father's murder, but she's on the run. Since she was heiress to the huge Winthrop legacy, her uncle didn't want her to inherit because she wasn't a true Winthrop. So, Uncle Archer set about framing for murder for the accident that took her father's life. The thing is, Holly overheard her uncle's threat to kill her before the police found her and she wasn't about to hang around for him to have the chance. Never did she think that her salvation would lie in a supernatural hero. A vampire! Blake Henry was once an spellbound servant of a vampire. Now he's his own man, master of his own household and lonely. His only true love, Angelica, had died two hundred years ago. He didn't hate being a vampire, but eternity could be so lonely, even though he worked at nights as an emergency plastic surgeon at a local hospital. Blake had not wanted to search for a new love, after the heartache of losing Angelica and, after saving Holly Winthrop from a near-death car crash, he wasn't ready for a heart adjustment. Still, she was beautiful and tempting. He would help her fight her uncle, make her forget that she knew a vampire and send her on her way--maybe.

He inhaled and exhaled slowly and her scent filled the room. She had showered sometime this evening. Soap, shampoo, feminine essence permeated his nostrils more than it would a normal man. He wanted her, but she wasn't in his reach, even though he had considered allowing himself to seek female companionship again. An heiress was hardly an obscure person. Her whole life was on display, especially now, and he couldn't snatch her away for his own. The country wasn't big enough to hide her from the public, even for Blake Cortland.
What if he revealed himself? What if he told Holly Winthrop that she had supernatural help in keeping her safe? Still... could he trust her with his secret? Kristen had always said that there were rare individuals who wouldn't be afraid and could share the secret without being a threat. If Ethan had blanked Kristen's memory of him, Ethan would have never known that Kristen could love him, in spite of his vampirism. Um. How could he tell if Holly was one who could hold the secret? It tempted him to find out. The bloodlust sent a pang of craving through him. He had to go to the hospital tonight to feed, or find an alternate source, since his supply had diminished. He couldn't miss every night at Bluegrass General or he'd lose his job, even though he had never called in sick and was supposedly on loan from an English hospital. If Winthrop returned tonight, Blake needed to be here to confront him. Blake let out another sigh. His ears easily picked up Holly's agitated breathing even though she kept her vision on the blank display. Her face exhibited concern. Was she concerned over being a burden, as Michael had said she said, or had she already started suspecting Blake of his true nature? Curious. Very curious. He might just find out.
