"No, don't do that!" Ronnie sprang to her feet, her green eyes glowing with anger as they bored into his. She tapped an reproachful finger against his chest. "I'm perfectly capable of handling my own affairs, Mr. Darden."

Their gazes locked in mortal combat. His golden-brown eyes plumbed the depths of her emerald greens searching for a sign of weakness, acquiescence. Ronnie's breath came fast and shallow. Her heart thundered tumultuously beneath her heaving breasts. She felt like fainting from the intensity of her anger, but pride kept her steady on her feet. When at last he spoke, his voice came deep and resonant as if he were singing her into a trance.

"Yes, I really believe you can handle your own affairs, Ms. Hawthorn."

He pulled her into his powerful hold, crushing her resistance as his full, sensual mouth pressed hungrily against her own. Without thinking, she parted her lips and allowed his tongue to further explore its hidden recesses while his broad hands molded her shapely hips against his own obvious growing desire. Her hands wrapped themselves around his neck of their own free will, stroking his neck and entwining themselves in his thick hair.
