Trina's father had tried to convince them that the move was an opportunity, but when it came it was far worse than she had expected. The extra money that he said came with the promotion to company headquarters in New York bought them only a bland, boxy house in a New Jersey suburb that seemed to go on forever. After they had moved in, Trina and Terry had rode their bikes a whole day and never got to the end of it. There was nothing to replace the Maine woods in back of their old farmhouse outside Bangor. And now Terry was gone, back to Maine to start her freshman year at Orono.
