Aunt Horrible always came in early June, just like the black flies. Ellie and the younger kids preferred the tiny, biting bugs from the woods. Every time she came, at least one neighbor got sick, making all the grown-ups worry. Aunt Horrible yelled at the kids all the time, and when she wasn't yelling she was talking, and her cigarettes stank up the whole house. Once she had threatened to sew all their lips shut to keep them quiet.
