eBook Description: Before she'd taken three steps, the thing in the boat moved again. And this time there could be no question. It was real. Unquestionably solid, undeniably human, it moved toward her, a fast-moving and barely seen blur. Kathy's first instinct was to raise her arm to protect her face. Her second, delayed by a precious second or two, was to run screaming, back toward the office. But as another ear-shattering rumble of thunder rolled across the sky, she knew she wasn't going to have that chance.

"You were never at a loss for words when we were kids," he growled, wiping his filthy hands on a rag that was only marginally cleaner. "But now that you've grown into a Princess, all you do is stammer like an idiot. Now, there must be a reason why you've decided to forget your promise not to bother me again."
She lowered her gaze. Bit her lip.
Beneath and around them, the old boat moved gently, bumping the dock with a familiar, soothing dip-and-sway.
It was hard for him to stay angry when he was on a boat ... was impossible, really, to feel anything but safe and content. And the last thing he needed was to feel safe with Kathy around.
Then she spoke, and just like always she knew how to bring a screaming, howling end to anything that resembled peace, or contentment.
"I came to ask you for a job," she said out of the blue, twisting her hands together in a way he could onlyregard as self-conscious, and maybe even a little devious.
