Mr. Wentworth was full of shit.
Jay shoved his hands into his pockets and stared at the path in front of him. All right, that wasn't quite fair. It was too early in the semester to tell if Wentworth was full of shit. He strongly suspected the teacher was full of shit. Which was a different thing, and a completely valid statement. For one thing, he had them call him mister, even though he was a doctor. Well, a psychiatrist, anyway. Jay figured if you were going to go to medical school, and earn all those letters after your name, you should use them, even if you were teaching Dream Div 101 instead of pshrinking wealthy nutcases. Understanding a dream portent could be useful, yeah, but what self-respecting sorcerer wasted all their time poking around in someone's dreams? Especially somewhere like here; Sorcerer U was so well-protected you couldn't even have a bad dream without triggering all sorts of wards, and getting called in for a session with Wentworth or one of his staff anyway... Still, you had to admire a guy who let you do your homework while you were sleeping. No paperwork, no staying up all night to get everything done, no grading--good deal all around. Jay took a cautious step onto the pathway, slightly reassured when the gold-flecked stones underfoot crunched solidly. The way they had been shimmering a second before, he hadn't been sure they would support his weight. And since there was nothing around them except some kind of pearly fog...
