eBook Description: Romance, Reincarnation, and Adventure on a Colony World! In the spellbinding second volume of Sally Swanson's Soul Survior Trilogy, Xinia, powerful and confident commander of the starship Naiad, rests frozen in stasis during the long voyage ferrying colonists to distant Sirius Seven. Conflict has already taken form around her even before leaving Earth. She is deeply attracted to both John Larson and Henri Fricol, and each is madly in love with Xinia and is determined to win her from the other. Meanwhile, unexpected disaster and difficult decisions lie ahead. Does the key to Xinia's future rest in her past? For, as she lies in stasis, she dreams of three very different lives far in the past, which yet have strange parallels to her present situation. In all three she loved, and was loved, by a pair of strong, determined men, each pair strangely resembling John and Henri. The decisions she made in those lives sometimes turned out well, sometimes terribly. If she learned any useful lessons in those lives, she will need them soon. For the claxons are about to awaken her and the rest of the ship's crew to face a disaster of unimaginable proportions that could leave them drifting helplessly among the stars forever or send them crashing out of control into the nearest world.

CHAPTER ONE: HOMETOWNJohn set the luggage onto the platform then lowered me from the train without a word. His wedding ring felt unusually heavy in the palm of my hand. I slipped it into my reticule and pulled the strings closed tightly. "Well I'll be. You brought home a girl." A laughing man strode quickly across the platform and hit John on the shoulder before heartily hugging him. He was of fairer features, about the same height, though slighter in build. John's mood instantly lightened. "Bobby, I'd like to introduce you to my fiancée, Annabelle Grant." He squeezed me against his side. "Anna, this is my brother Robert." "Call me Bob or Bobby like this knucklehead does." He shook my hand heartily. "It is a pleasure to meet you." I smiled politely. John nodded toward town. "Where's everyone?" "Ma's throwing a homecoming picnic by the pond. I volunteered to pick you up 'cause Helen didn't want the baby out all day." A similar sassy grin spread across his thin lips. "Boy, they're going to be surprised." "Excuse me," the conductor tipped his hat. "Just wanted to say good-bye. Ma'am, after last December, I kept having nightmares about that day. I even switched lines to try and get away from 'em. They'll be gone now after seeing you so well and happy." He motioned toward the train. "Got everything?" "Not quite." John slapped his brother's shoulder and led him down the platform. The conductor removed his cap, wiping his sweaty brow. "You have a good man there, ma'am." "Yes, though..." My eyes widened in disbelief when the blond men stepped from the livestock car, each with a hand on the halter of a lively chestnut mare. "Brisa!" The horse tossed her head and pulled both men toward me. Instead of hugging her first, I threw my arms around John. "This is why you were late." "It was Rudy's idea." John blushed happily. "He brought her to the station, but I had to help load her. Boy, did she put up a fuss." The whistle sounded, and a jet of steam shot across the platform. She shied, and it took the strength of both brothers to lead her to the wagon. With a final wave, the conductor hopped aboard, and the train disappeared.
