eBook Description: Originally published as a novel by Stu Rivers in 1961 and later translated in hard back edition in Europe under my own name. To make it up-to-date I made a few alternations and expanded it somewhat to fit today's Hollywood. But it is the same story. While revealing the seedy side of the Casting Coucher's game, it also tells the story of one young lady's struggle to avoid that trap and come out ahead in her reach for stardom. It tells how far some people will go to advance their careers, where the rewards were priceless and the costs could be the loss of one's soul in a mad drive for fame.

CHAPTER ONEThere were two problems running through Peter Denton's mind as he drove his blue sedan toward the Van Horn Studios. The strongest, at that moment, was the delightful memory of a warm and sweet-tasting kiss from Judy Grant, whom he had been forced to leave alone at his apartment. A call from the studio had brought a warm passionate scene to a quick and awkwardly blunt end. It was a bad time for any kind of business, but he couldn't have ignored the phone because it might be Mr. Calvin Van Horn. When the "Big Man" said jump, there were a lot of people in Hollywood who would do just that--and willingly! Peter Denton was one of those puppets. And a newly hired one who very much wanted to succeed at his first job as a producer. Everything mattered. Even with a low level Hollywood big shot like Van Horn who had been in the business for decades and knew all the tricks to put out fast films for quick profits. A real chance for Peter Denton's hopes of making it big in films. He had put aside all thoughts of romantic involvements as childish fantasy; business was business. It came first. Family and all that were something he simply had decided could wait. Even if that had been a lovely dream in early years. Now it was all different. And the unlimited extras of the casting couch were a neat little bonus that came along with the job title. The phone conversation had been brief but to the point: "Get the hell on down here, Sweetheart! I have a nice big shock waiting for you!" "What?" "Alice Palmer again!" That was all the explanation he had needed. The young blonde actor, who was starring in Calvin Van Horn's newest movie production, had been a headache from the very first moment they'd approached her for the role. She'd been getting worse ever since. At this point things didn't matter too much--production was still several days away. They could afford to pamper her; but once things started moving, everybody was ready for the worst. The "great" actor would be late for shooting, holding up the production; a lot of false temperament; rewriting of the script to suit her own tastes; and arguments with the director, producer and writer.
