It isn't unusual to find a private detective on Hollywood Boulevard--unless she happens to be a nun.

Correction, ex-nun. I got out of the life when my father died and I realized I only went into it to spite him, amoral hedonist that he was. Adolescent rebellion shouldn't be the basis of crucial decisions, though I'm still fuzzy on how they should be made.

But, wanting a clean break from the past, I have taken over my father's detective agency, which is the only thing he left me, apart from his debts. It's not as crazy as it sounds. I worked there summers during college and got pretty good at tracking down folks who didn't want to be found.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Lynn James, current owner of the James T. James Detective Agency. Not as grand as you might think. I do have a two-room suite of offices, one of which doubles as my bedroom, and a few sticks of furniture, but that's it. Everything that remotely resembled an asset, I hocked to pay last month's rent. Don't ask how I'm going to cover this month's.

Clients are not breaking down the door. No one believes a nun belongs in this kind of work, and everyone knows. Hollywood is really just a small town, if they have small towns in hell. Total degenerates beam at my wholesome demeanor and censor everything they say in front of me. What a joke. I taught high school for eight years--there's nothing I haven't heard.

"Nothing" also describes what I've done. I'm really eager for some experience now, and naturally, for ready cash. This neighborhood did provide a solution to both problems, but lacking a hot pink tube skirt, I decided to pass.
