eBook Description: It started for Steve Floyd when the woman offered $2,000 to take her to a distant island that very night. Virginia Donovan was one of the most lovely women he had seen for a very long time. Not since the death of his wife, years before, had he found any female so desirable. Most men would sell their souls to take her into their arms. She came with a dangerous partner, who must be her lover. Yet the woman made no attempt to hide her wanton desire for Steve. Was she playing him for a fool? He could never tell if she was a Goddess of Love or a demon from hell. Yet he fell totally under her spell and re-discovered feelings he had thought long dead. Virginia Donovan lead him to a golden Virgin Idol locked away in the ancient temple ruins of a lost civilization. A Curse was supposed to have protected it for at least a thousand years. And she would have it at all costs! Even if it was necessary to play the two men off against one another. For readers who thrilled to Slaves of Lomooro comes this exciting suspense thriller. Set in the South Pacific, it examines the hearts and passions of two men and one woman who are totally possessed with unrelenting Gold Fever. Released in 1969 as the lead short novel in Powell Adventure Book "Goldlust" by Albert Augustus, Jr.

CHAPTER ONEAs usual, Steve Floyd was drunk. He was lounging in the Sea Cove, a small saloon just opposite the dock at Shell Island. The rum had tasted good in the beginning, but now it was too sweet. His throat was beginning to burn from too much of the stuff; his vision blurred. He sat there at the small wooden table holding his head in his hands thinking about the mess his last little trip had turned into. The place was dimly lighted and what little light came from outside cast only sharp outlines on his ruggedly handsome face. When the tall woman came up to his table and asked, "Are you Steven Floyd?" it took several seconds for him to react. He had been thinking about the long trip he had taken with Mary-Lou, his small sea plane, in search of a yacht which had given an SOS signal the night before. What he discovered wasn't worth having gone out for. The yacht had crashed into a reef and the three passengers had disappeared into the depths of the Pacific Ocean. "Are you Mr. Floyd?" the woman's voice persisted. Steve blinked and shook his head to clear away the fog. Slowly he turned his gray-blue eyes in the direction of the voice. What met his gaze was startling enough to knock the drunken blur from his mind in one shocking jolt. The woman was tall, high breasted, and curvy. She was decked out in a form-fitting light skirt and white blouse which did plenty for her figure. Her face, with high cheekbones and wide lips, gave a classic and sensual appearance which attracted his immediate attention.
