"Whoa, where'd she come from?"

Joe Franconi glanced up from his palm pilot to see who Tommy thought was so special. A skirted woman rounded the corner near the van. "I don't think the FBI is paying you to ogle women."

The new recruit sat up straighter. "Yes, sir. Sorry, sir."

"Relax, I was jok" Joe jerked back as the woman drew close to the window, spread her lips and rubbed her teeth with her finger. Placing his finger over his mouth, he motioned to Tommy for quiet.

Her green eyes sparkled as she lifted a small cylinder, pursed her lips, and smoothed on lipstick. Joe crushed his instant, and unusual, physical response to this surprise vision.

Tommy clutched at his heart as soon as she stepped away. "That scared the hell out of me. Walking right up to the van like that."

Joe dragged his hand through his hair. Having a woman come up and practically kiss the window was not a common occurrence. "Yeah, even I forgot about the mirrored windows."

Propping his elbows on his knees, Tommy swung his ever-present headphones on the tip of his finger. "After that shock, I'd vote for bugging the place."

"A bug wouldn't last. You know, they sweep on a daily basis. Plus, they move too often."

Turning to the side window, Joe studied the blue-suited woman crossing the street. She definitely didn't fit in the neighborhood. Women down here were more likely to wear mini-skirts or skintight pants with cropped tops.

Taking his time, he surveyed her from the top of her blonde head to the tip of her sensible, low-heeled shoes. Her wavy, shining hair was pulled back and a thick braid swayed around her shoulders. Even the boxy suit couldn't disguise her incredible figure.

A low wolf whistle echoed through the van. "Look at those legs."

Frowning at Tommy's reaction, Joe stayed focused on the woman. Silently he agreedher legs could make a man's mouth water. Like his was starting to do.

Up close, she'd been pretty, but now that he could see the whole package even 'beautiful' or 'attractive' was too tame to describe the woman standing on the other side of the street. A walking fantasy for his underused libido was better. He rolled his shoulders as if he could physically shake off the uncomfortable emotion.

"Her briefcase," he stated almost to himself, as she balanced it precariously in her hand. "Could she be the new runner?" He slapped Tommy on the shoulder, ignoring an odd flash of regret that she was one of the bad guys. "Your ogling may be right on the money, buddy. This could be the new contact."

"You think so?" Tommy craned his neck to look out the side window. "She sure doesn't fit the profile."

Joe leaned closer to the window. "Look at her case. Who else would be in this neighborhood with one?"

"The runner usually doesn't go to the house with the briefcase. They pick it up there."

"Maybe they changed their routine again. She's definitely headed for Scalfone's front door." Pointing across the street, Joe nodded. "It would appear we've just found the mob's newest runner." With conflicting emotions, Joe felt certain about his conclusion.
