eBook Description: When Elise answers the knock on her bedroom door, she has no idea of the adventure on which she is about to embark, nor the levels of passion she will discover within herself. Thomas Colwell, an eighteenth century highwayman, is adamant that Elise herself planned her abduction from her husband, the Earl. He is even more insistent of his yearning for her. Drawn together by their intense physical attraction, two lovers will find their way across the boundaries of time and space, driven by the desires burning within them. Is it just a dream? Or will their hungers be sated?

Chapter One"I have exactly the piece for you." The elderly shopkeeper rubbed his bony hands together as he searched under his counter. "I know I saw it just-aha! Here it is." Elise tried to wave him off. She had no intention of purchasing anything from the strange man. She'd only entered Second Notions at Ruth's insistence, and couldn't imagine finding anything worthwhile in the dingy store. "Oh, come on," Ruth said, grabbing Elise's arm before she could escape. "Check it out at least." Elise glared at her friend, then grudgingly stepped closer to the counter. It was the first time she'd really gone anywhere with anyone just for fun since Alfred's death, and she was enjoying being away from the house. She'd try her best not to dampen the mood. The old man held out one hand, palm up, in which rested a small box covered with gold filigree. The tiny container looked very old and extremely delicate. "What is it?" Elise asked. "Go ahead," the shopkeeper said. "It was made for you." Made for her-what a ploy. No doubt he was trying to get rid of some piece of junk he hadn't been able to sell for the past fifty years. "Go on." Ruth elbowed her in the ribs. Elise eyed the box and took it carefully from the old man's hand, holding it up to the dim light to study it. That's when she realized it was some kind of antique jewelry box. "Open it," the shopkeeper whispered. She opened the box very carefully. He probably intended to have it fall apart in her hands, then insist she pay some outrageous price. She wouldn't let that happen. Inside was a necklace-a tiny silver heart with a dark stone in the middle, hanging from a delicate silver chain. Something about the necklace drew her attention in a strange way, as if suddenly it were the only thing in the room. Elise extracted the necklace and held it in her hand. The stone lightened, glittered, and glowed a deep, rich blue. It warmed her palm. "It's beautiful," she said, not realizing at first that she'd spoken aloud. "Try it on," the old man said. Elise stared at him, then did as he suggested, closing the antique clasp behind her neck. The silver heart rested just at the base of her throat. "Here," the shopkeeper said, holding up a small mirror. Elise studied her reflection, marveling at the way the stone glowed again as if it had a light source hidden at its center. A strange tingle started in her throat beneath the silver heart and spread like heated chocolate through her upper body, then down her trunk and limbs. It wasn't just an ordinary tingle, like a waking foot or the tickle of a feather. An intense, erotic tingle seemed tied to her very soul and made her imagine how wonderful warm silk sheets would feel against her bare skin. She remembered the way she'd secretly longed for sex the last few years of Alfred's life-for a strong man's body taking hers in heated passion, penetrating her, filling her and needing her, and satisfying her deep, hungry ache for intimacy. "Wow." Elise jumped at Ruth's voice. Her face burned and her heart pounded as she turned to look at her friend. "It really was made for you," Ruth said, her voice a whisper. "Yes," the old shopkeeper said, rubbing his withered hands together again. "With this necklace, you'll find true love." Elise frowned. "True love?" She unhooked the clasp and curled the necklace into its box. "I don't think so." The man looked horrified. "But you must take it." "How much?" Ruth asked. "Ruth--" "Five dollars." The old man's eyes twinkled. They both stared at him in silence. "You can't beat the price," Ruth finally said. "Fine." Elise pulled a ten from her purse. She wasn't about to admit that she would have paid a great deal more for the strange piece. "Keep the change." "Thank you, ma'am." The old man placed the bill in the cash register that looked almost as ancient as he was, smiled a toothless grin, and shuffled away. Elise looked at Ruth and they both laughed. "I guess we're done here." Elise tucked the tiny box into her purse and followed her friend from the store.
