eBook Description: Welcome to the first Fictionwise.com Round Robin Novel! Science Fiction writer and Fictionwise Author of the Year Mike Resnick is our editor for this project. Chapter 6 is written by Laura Resnick, multi-award winning author in the fantasy and romance genres. Here's Mike's description of what a Round Robin is: "A round robin is a science fiction tradition dating back some 70 years. It works like this: a number of authors agree to write one chapter each of a novel. There is no plot. There is no outline. Author #1 writes the opening chapter and sends it on to Author #2, who has no idea what he's about to receive. He can continue the plot, branch off from it in a logical way, even contradict something that came before if he does it fairly (such as showing that the main character was being purposely misled). It then goes to Author #3 and so on down the line; the final Author wraps it up. For this reason, not only can't we tell you what the book is about yet, but we can't even give you a title (but never fear: there will be a contest open to all Fictionwise.com readers). Okay, those are the ground rules. Now enjoy." Just some of the authors who are participating include Nancy Kress, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Robert Sheckley, and Brian Herbert--look for more announcements! Chapter 1 is FREE! Purchase a subscription and chapters 2-17 will be added to your bookshelf at a discount, click here for more info!

Sitting in his temporary office on MacDougal II, Commander Kendell Spencer leaned forward and, with great deliberation, started banging his plastic-plated head against his desk.
Alerted by the noise, perhaps, Patsy Klein stuck her head in the door a few moments later and asked, "Is there a problem?"
The diminutive yet formidable Ramon Boganda looked up at her from his chair in the far corner of the drab, windowless room and said, "We're having a little trouble interpreting Plibix's message." He blew gently on his java and took a sip.
"'Master intelligence.'" Spencer banged his head on his desk. "'Scrambled eggs.'" Bang. "What does it mean?" Bang!
"Okay, enough of that," Ramon said. "That plastic head plate cost SpaceOp a bundle, you know. Don't even get me started on how bloated our medical expenses for this fiscal year are, and we're not even halfway through the second quarter yet."
"Maybe Plibix's message is in code," Patsy suggested.
