VILLAGE DRUMS vibrated in a booming cantata: Pom! Pi! Po pom pi! The Abafazi celebrated their new bride, their bare gyrating torsos gleaming with rich animal fat.
Our son has found a maiden!A pure gift from the water nymph, None fairer than she stands. A wonder for all to see. They danced, a swish of sisal skirts here, a graceful sway of neck there. And the feet! Caked with red dust, their toes tapped on the earth in perfect sync to the beat. Their heels made powered ostrich loops. A fresh spray of soil escaped from the broken ground, slowly rising into the air. It formed a faint cloud of auburn powder that danced into the horizon and mingled with the chanting.
