"You have the damnedest luck," the fat man announced, stepping away from the green covered poker table, his heavy features frozen with a stiff smile.
Greg Cannon laughed; hoping it would sound embarrassed. "Don't play much. Guess you're right."
He gathered in his winnings with huge, flexible hands, counted up to a little over six hundred and stuffed the money into his wallet.
The thin, retired Captain narrowed his eyes at Cannon. "If I didn't know better I might think you pulled something on us, Stranger."
The man's voice revealed his belief that Greg had cheated.
They couldn't prove anything, Greg thought.
