I had only been gone a few minutes. Three mugs of ale had cried out for freedom, leaving me helpless to resist. After liberating my libations, I made my way back into the Blind Griffon, where two things immediately caught my attention.
The first was a woman. My wife, to be precise. We had been married for two weeks now, and it was still odd to realize I would spend the rest of my life with this woman. Of course, given our lifestyle, the rest of my life was as likely to be measured in minutes as decades.
I must be honest--I have met women more beautiful than Alycia. Her red-blond hair was cut short above the ears, and her round cheeks were slightly flushed with drink. An old knife scar crossed her chin. Her lively blue eyes met mine as I walked into the bar. I saw the silent message there and took a seat, allowing her to resolve the situation herself. There may be more beautiful women than Alycia, but I've never met one who was more fun. I ordered another ale as Alycia returned her attention to the wall of muscle and hair who towered over her.
"Wall," as I dubbed him, was the second thing to have caught my eye. Mostly because of the way he was staring at my wife and licking his upper lip. Between the noise of the Blind Griffon and the fact that Wall was slightly intoxicated, I had to strain to understand his words.
"You dress like a man," Wall said.
Leather bracers covered Alycia's sleeves, and black pants were tucked into her low-cut boots. It was a drastically different look than the cleavage-thrusting shirts worn by the barmaids. Wall leaned closer, grinning. "You like getting into a man's clothes?"
